Friends, Acquaintances

― and possible acquaintances

Archival research permitted me to identify some influential friends of the Charpentier family. In other cases, I can only hypothesize that the composer actually met an individual whose trajectory seems to intersect his own. Sometimes, as in the case of Charles Le Brun, this intersection is geographical, and that a long-past proximity may have led to patronage during the 1670s and 1680s. And then there is Jacques II Dalibert, the impresario in Rome whose father was acquainted with several close friends of the Charpentier family.

(I present word-portraits of other friends and acquaintances of the composer and his family, in my Portraits around Marc-Antoine Charpentier.)
