The Charpentier commemorative plaque at the Archives nationales, Paris

In the summer of 2004 — thanks to the efforts of Catherine Cessac and the material support of the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles — a commemorative plaque was affixed to the wall of the Porte Clisson, the medieval entry gate of the now-demolished Hôtel de Guise, rue des Archives (known in Mademoiselle de Guise's day as the "rue du Chaume").

The plaque reads:

Ici vécut de 1670 à 1688
Marc-Antoine Charpentier
compositeur au service de Mademoiselle de Guise
don du Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles.

Was Charpentier authorized to enter the urban palace through this prestigious gate? Or was he expected to use the rear entrance, on the rue Vieille du Temple (as M. Du Bois apparently did, since that was the address he once gave a notary)?  The plaque can be seen in the far lower left of the picture.
